Roblox adds Quality mode beta for Studio texture generation
Roblox introduces a Quality mode beta for 4K PBR texture generation in Studio. Test prompts in Fast mode, then check material detail and limitations before adopting the output.
Roblox introduced a Quality mode beta for Studio texture generation in its October 16, 2026 announcement. For developers restyling models, the new option produces 4K PBR textures with maps for color, roughness, and metalness. Roblox says generation takes about 2 minutes, compared with about 30 seconds for Fast mode’s color-only 1K output.
Material detail changes the workflow
According to Roblox, texture generation also handles multipart meshes, including hidden pieces in animated or scripted models. Quality mode tends to work better with higher-resolution models. Developers can access generation through the Model ribbon’s Texture button, the object context menu’s Generate submenu, or Assistant’s /generate_texture command with a mesh selected.
Our recommendation is to treat Quality as a material review step, not an identical higher-resolution copy of a Fast result. Roblox warns that generated details can change between modes and prompts may need adjustment. That makes checking the final surface treatment important even after approving a Fast preview.
Test a representative prop
We’d start by testing a representative prop this week: refine its material, color, and wear descriptions in Fast, then rerun the prompt in Quality. Compare visible surfaces and hidden moving parts in the game’s lighting. Keep every texture requirement inside the prompt; Roblox says the generator cannot use Assistant’s conversation history or other game context.
Roblox says alpha channels are unsupported and normal-map details are currently ignored. Prompts cannot add geometry or particle effects. Preserving original UVs, persistent image previews, easier transfers of inputs between modes, and normal-map support remain planned improvements over the coming weeks, not features to assume are available in this beta.
