Roblox launches Prompt-to-Avatar in Studio beta
Roblox launches Prompt-to-Avatar in Studio beta for generating game characters from text. Test the resulting models and account for missing accessories before adopting the workflow.
Roblox has launched Prompt-to-Avatar in Studio beta for developers creating game characters, according to its October 29, 2026 announcement. The tool turns text descriptions into avatar models through a workflow that starts with a 2D concept. Roblox says it is accessible through Avatar Setup, Assistant, and Studio MCP.
What the beta produces
The announcement lists options for built-in clothing or a body with a modesty layer, static or dynamic heads, and R15 or Advanced R15 rigs. Dynamic heads include eye sockets and a mouth cavity for facial expressions. Developers can revise the concept image before choosing Build 3D. Roblox says generation takes 3 to 6 minutes, potentially longer for bodies with dynamic heads.
Accessories are not generated in this beta, even when the concept image shows them. Roblox says accessory generation is planned for the production release. Separate clothing and accessory assets, along with separating hair from heads, are also listed as future work rather than current capabilities.
Test a character this week
Our recommendation is to evaluate the beta on a game character whose design does not depend on accessories. In Studio, open File, select Beta Features, and enable Prompt-to-Avatar. Then open Avatar Setup and choose Build Avatar (Beta). Roblox recommends putting style, proportions, and important details early in a concise prompt.
We'd start by comparing the generated model with the approved concept, then testing it with the game's existing animations. Record generation time and cleanup work before changing production plans. That comparison can help establish whether the tool reduces work for your team's particular character style.
