Roblox adds custom Quick Words for game chat
Roblox now lets developers publish game-specific Quick Words. Review the category limits and approval rules before replacing your default chat phrases.
Roblox now lets developers create and publish game-specific Quick Words, according to its October 13, 2026 announcement. The change affects teams that want preset chat phrases tailored to their gameplay. Approved phrases appear automatically in the Chat window, but availability remains subject to regional limits.
What changes in chat
Roblox describes Quick Words as approved phrases for gameplay coordination where free-form communication is restricted across age groups. Developers can now supply up to three custom categories, each containing three to ten Quick Words. Those categories replace Roblox’s defaults; the General category stays available across games.
According to the announcement, entries must be in English. Roblox translates approved Quick Words automatically using each player’s chat language setting. Publishing submits both categories and phrases for content review before they become visible. Developers can edit rejected phrases and submit them again. This is a reviewed preset system, not a change to free-form chat permissions.
Test a coordination gap
Our recommendation is to identify a gameplay moment this week where players need to communicate a task, destination, or request for help. Draft a focused set of phrases for that moment, then check the content guidelines before submitting. In Creator Hub, select your game, open Configure, then Chat, then Quick Words.
We’d start by comparing the proposed categories with the defaults they replace, so useful coordination options are not lost. After approval, run a playtest where Quick Words are available and ask whether players can find the intended phrase during normal gameplay. Test translated wording too, rather than assuming the English draft communicates equally well in every supported chat language.
